Digital and technological convergence

Technological convergence is hardware that can play many platforms
Digital convergence is where everything is digitised from analouge to be on the mainstream (internet).
Digital convergence is also where all these platforms are connected, for example YouTube on Facebook.

9 Frames Activity

The task set was to create 9 frames that display titles for a film opening.  I created a storyboard/shot list for the film 'CRAVE'. I then found nine pictures off the internet and I Posted them to blogger. This exercise is to give us a more visual sense of how a title sequence should look.

Preliminary Production Task

For our OCR preliminary task we have to record a very short film which contained 3 Basic Rules:
Shot-Reverse-Shot,  Match On Action and the 180 degree rule.

The scenario was a youth comes into a school during lesson times, steals a computer by hiding it in his jacket and makes a run for it.

Location: Cherwell Secondary School (Northsite) Student Entrance Just Past The Gate and the Alleyway that leads from Cherwell to Summertown.
Soundtrack: Dizzee Rascal - 'jus a rascal. This song was chosen because it helps connote the Atmosphere of the scene and particularly how the youth was feeling throughout the scenes.
Editing: The editing is to be limited to the basics; Continuity editing, jump cuts, and fast forwards on Certain Clips.

Shooting Schedule (AM):

9:10 Establishing Shot walking towards the Gate while stealing laptop
9:15 Reverse shots facilitated by a makeshift dolly to keep it smooth
9:20 Action Shot of youth running from the gate
9:30 Tracking Shot of youth running down alleyway
9:40 Reverse Tracking shot round corner of alleyway in front of youth
(give or take 5 minutes for each procedure in the shoot)

Anchorage

Anchorage is basically used in media to attach meaning to something through either the matching of words to images or the juxtaposition of two images which construct a meaning. It is mainly linked to advertisements.
For example picture captions, they tell us in words exactly how the subject should be read/interpreted.

Title Sequence Excercise On The Movie 'Crave'

This exercise shows the the structure of the title sequence of the film 'Crave'.
This Task is to help show us roughly how a title sequence should be/is structured and to help show us how meticulous the planning needs to be to create one of a good quality.
This exercise can be used as a visual reference when we to help facilitate our ideas and film ambitions. This will especially help when it comes to the post production editing stage.

OCR Preliminary Task Evaluation

In my preliminary task we accomplished the three rules
- 180 degree rule,
this was done unconventionally as our video is mainly at a fast pace and we utilised the full range of movements of the rule
- Match on action,
The act was the theft of a laptop in a public place and then running to evade capture, the music I believe fits well with the overall tone of the video.
-  Shot reverse shot,
this rule was repeated and used slightly differently, the first use of it was very typical quick backwards and forwards action. The last use of it was each shot was slightly elongated.

Critisisms:
- I Belive the shots were slightly to shakey.
- We didnt take enough shots so when it came to the editing section I had to cut the same shots into fragments and reorganise them so it gave the impression that we had incorporated many shots into the video.
- I dont belive the camera we used was upto the job as it was quite small and very small input of movement showed hugely in each shot.

OCR Preliminary Task

I made this preliminary task In a group with Alexandra Higgs, we wanted to stray from the generic Preliminary task videos which we found all tended to have lost any sort of distinction between them. We used a 1080p Flip Fino Camera and a bicycle to mimic a dolly shot. It was edited with iMovie for Macbook Pro and gave us our first taste and practice of using the editing software. The sound track is 'Jus A Rascal' By Dizzee Rascal, and it was chosen because we believed it fitted very well with our video.
We chose our actor 'Mamoun Elagab' due to his previous acting experience and he was the most comfortable candidate in front of the camera.

180 degree rule

The 180 degree rule is a film makers rule that aids continuity. there is an imaginary line in the scene which the camera cannot cross. For example if there are two people walking down the line towards each other, the camera could not cross to the other side and it would reposition how we would see the actors and could potentially ruin the continuity for the audience.
I found this video to aid my explanation.

Match on action

Match on action means when something happens in the scene, then when there is a cut the same piece of action must be going on. This is also an example of continuity editing and is very important to help the audience continually understanding exactly what happens.

Shot Reverse Shot

Shot reverse shot is a film technique where one character is shown looking at another character, and then the other character is show looking back at the first character. Since characters are shown facing in the opposite direction, the viewer assumes they are looking at each other.

DreamWorks Studios Ident

DreamWorks Studios
DreamWorks is an American film studio which develops, produces, and distributes films, video games and television programming. The boy sitting on the cresent mood surrounded by cloud connotes fantasy.
The boy fishing helps signifies to us serenity. as that is what is normally thought of when one thinks of fishing. The I belive the target audience is 3-13 and the iconic logo is unique and very imaginative so it sticks in the mind of young children and it gives them the indexical thought that when they see this logo they like it with happiness and fantasy.
